About Me.
Hi! I'm Alessandro.
Born and raised in the beautiful region of northern Italy, near Milan, I spent my early academic years at the Politecnico di Milano. There, I developed a solid theoretical foundation that includes advanced calculus, algebra, geometry, and physics. When the COVID-19 pandemic ended, it prompted a unique academic detour that led me to the city of Oulu for an Erasmus experience.
In Oulu, my academic approach evolved as I had the opportunity to apply theory to practice. This transition not only enhanced my understanding of computer science but also helped me discover my passion - Virtual Reality (VR) and game development. What intrigues me the most about this field is its interdisciplinary nature. This newfound way of studying lead me to transfer between universities and I have nearly completed my master's degree at the University of Oulu.
Currently, I am part of the Perception Engineering Group at UBICOMP, University of Oulu. Our aim is to intersect engineering, psychology, and neuroscience to address VR challenges and establish innovative best practices. My research revolves around understanding the 'presence' phenomenon in VR using EEG, an experience that has brought unique challenges and opportunities for learning every day. In this unit, I've been fortunate to work with experts in the field, and to experience and compare different technologies such as Varjo, Oculus, and Valve headsets.
Outside of VR and game development, I have plenty of hobbies to keep me busy. I love to travel and take pictures, especially when I'm hiking up mountains to get the best shot of the stars. Cooking is also a big part of my life, and I'm always trying new recipes. I find the best way to test my cooking is by inviting friends over for dinner – it's not just about the food, but the great company too.
That's a bit about me, and I can't wait to contribute my skills and passion to the exciting world of VR and game development!
